Publishing on Airbnb:
photos, title and listing
On Airbnb, the cover photo and the title are the first things guests see in the search results. This guide brings together the platform's official rules and our photographer's tips to help you present your property at its best, without overpromising.
Official Airbnb rules, checked on 16 October 2026. See the sources
What Airbnb requires
Minimum size: 1024 × 683 pixels. If in doubt, Airbnb recommends a larger image.
Several photos of each room, from different angles.
An Airbnb tool can sort photos by room to build a photo tour of the property.
The title and the cover photo are the first things noticed in the search results.
Going beyond the minimum required
Following the rules keeps your photos from being rejected. What makes the difference in the search results is the quality of the presentation.
Choose a cover photo that shows your main selling point: the view, the living room, the terrace or the spa, rather than a bedroom or an ordinary façade.
Assign each photo to the right room in the photo tour: guests get a clearer idea of the property's layout.
Export in large format (at least 3000 pixels wide): the image stays sharp on a large screen as well as on a mobile.
Order the photos as you would a viewing: living areas, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, outdoor spaces, surroundings.
Writing and completing your Airbnb listing
- Title: start with the most important detail and aim for fewer than 50 characters; beyond that, the title is cut off in the search results.
- Normal capitalisation: no words in all capitals, except proper names and codes.
- No emojis or repeated symbols ("!!!", "***"): Airbnb considers them confusing or misleading.
- There is no need to repeat what Airbnb already displays: the town, the number of beds, or the fact that the listing is new.
- Write a detailed description and list all the amenities you offer (Wi-Fi, self check-in, workspace, parking, pets allowed).
- Example title: "Wooden chalet with spa, Mont Blanc view" rather than "STUNNING CHALET 10 PEOPLE!!!".
- In the description, talk about the stay: what mornings are like, access to the slopes or the lake, the atmosphere in the evening.
- Check that every amenity you mention appears in a photo: consistency reassures guests.
What holds a listing back on Airbnb
A title in all capitals
It comes across as aggressive and Airbnb advises against it. A normal, precise sentence reads better.
A cover photo that says nothing
A bedroom as the first image when the property has an exceptional view: its main asset is invisible in the search results.
Photos that are too small
Below 1024 × 683 pixels, the image is rejected or blurry. Aim much larger.
Forgotten amenities
An amenity that is not ticked does not show up in guests' search filters.
